Ascension - May 20, 2012

Today we celebrate the Ascension of our Lord Jesus into heaven as He brings our human nature right into the very Life of the Holy Trinity, to the right hand of God our Father.  The Ascension of our Lord Jesus completes the goal of His Incarnation.  The Eternal Son of God became Man, taking on our human nature in order to die for our sins.  Then He rises from the dead and now He even takes that same human nature with Him as He ascends into the very Life of God Himself...

6th Sunday of Easter - May 13, 2012

In our first reading, Peter, the first leader of Christ’s Church chosen by Jesus Himself in Matthew chapter 16, sees how God is working in the hearts of Cornelius and his whole household.  They were non-Jews, Gentile pagans.  And Peter says, “In truth, I see that God shows no partiality.  Rather, in every nation whoever fears him and acts uprightly is acceptable to him.”  As he spoke the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Love being sent forth by the Father ...

5th Sunday of Easter - May 6, 2012  (First Communion Sunday)

Today [as we celebrate the Solemn Holy Communion of our 3rd graders] our Lord Jesus says in the Gospel, “I am the vine, you are the branches.  Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear much fruit, because without me you can do nothing.”  That is what God wants from each of your lives… that your lives would bear the supernatural fruit of God’s own Divine Love lived out in real virtuous deeds.
