February 22, 2013 - To Jesus through Mary

On this feast of the Chair of Peter, we celebrate this great gift of unity that God our Father has given us in the papacy.  Our Lord Jesus speaks to Peter of his identity in the Father’s Love: “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah.  For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father.  And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church…”  Peter hears of his place in the Mystical Body of Christ fr...

February 21, 2013 - To Jesus through Mary

In the first reading today, Queen Esther intercedes to God for her people, the chosen people who are in exile and who are in danger of being exterminated.  She prays with deep desire and surrender: “God of Abraham, God of Isaac, and God of Jacob, blessed are you.  Help me, who am alone and have no help but you, for I am taking my life in my hand.”  She is risking her very life, surrendering with trust to God whom she knows will not abandon her.

February 20, 2013 - To Jesus through Mary

“A clean heart create for me, O God, and a steadfast spirit renew within me.  Cast me not out from your presence, and your Holy Spirit take not from me.”  This verse from Psalm 51 expresses a lot of desire, a desire for a clean, new heart. It's a desire for a steady spirit secure in our true identity. It's a desire to be in God’s Presence never feeling as if we have to face life alone. And it's a desire for the Holy Spirit to fill my heart.  All ...

February 19, 2013 - To Jesus through Mary

“Thus says the LORD:  Just as from the heavens the rain and snow come down and do not return there till they have watered the earth, making it fertile and fruitful, giving seed to the one who sows and bread to the one who eats, so shall my word be that goes forth from my mouth;  It shall not return to me void, but shall do my will, achieving the end for which I sent it.”

Mary’s Immaculate Heart and Her whole person is that rich soil that receives ...

February 18, 2013 - To Jesus through Mary

Today our Living God speaks to us; “Be holy, for I, the Lord, your God, am holy.”  To be holy is to be our real selves, who God created us to be.  To be holy is to be like God in my human nature.  In the first reading, God shows us that the first step in being holy is to avoid sin. It calls us to avoid dark choices in our life such as living a lie, harming another’s reputation with gossip, holding onto a grudge, and so many other decisions that h...

February 16, 2013 - in preparation of the Consecration to Jesus through Mary

Jesus saw a tax collector named Levi sitting at the customs post.  He said to him, “Follow me.”

Levi, who became Matthew the apostle, was sitting in his main place of sinfulness.  The customs post or tax collector's booth was a place of greed, a place of addiction, a place of cheating and dishonesty… the place of his weakness.  But this is where Jesus “saw” him.  What must have been that gaze of love of Jesus...

February 15, 2013 - in preparation for the Consecration to Jesus through Mary

In today’s Gospel, Jesus said “Can the wedding guests mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them?” This word “bridegroom” stood out for me throughout the day. In our preparation to consecrate ourselves to Jesus through Mary, it really is a journey into the Father’s Wedding Feast that He has prepared for His Son.  The Father’s Love story is revealed in the Pierced Heart of Jesus who thirsts for our hea...
