February 19, 2013 - To Jesus through Mary

“Thus says the LORD:  Just as from the heavens the rain and snow come down and do not return there till they have watered the earth, making it fertile and fruitful, giving seed to the one who sows and bread to the one who eats, so shall my word be that goes forth from my mouth;  It shall not return to me void, but shall do my will, achieving the end for which I sent it.”

Mary’s Immaculate Heart and Her whole person is that rich soil that receives the Father’s Word of Love so perfectly, so humbly.  When the Angel Gabriel came announcing to Her the Father’s Desire that the Holy Spirit conceive in Her the human nature of His own Eternal Son, Mary said, “Behold the handmaid of the Lord; let it be done to me according to your Word” and the Word was made flesh, God made man in Her Womb.  Mary received the Word of God first in the Womb of Her Immaculate Heart and then by the same Holy Spirit she became fully who she was meant to be, the Mother of God.

The Father has a Word for your life too.  He sees who you and I can become if we listen and receive His transforming Word of Love.  If we give our hearts to Mary, she can teach us how to be more open, how to be more silent and listen and how to be receptive.

We often listen to false words about our life: the opinions of others, the false values of this world, the lies of the enemy, and even our own low self esteem. All of these can make us feel weighed down, stressed as if we have to perform, empty and discouraged as if we are failing God.

But the Father’s Word of Love, who is Jesus, sees who you really are and delights in you.  With the Heart of Jesus, you do not have to wait until you are perfect to be loved. He loves you right now as you are - the real you.  You are indeed very lovable!

Mary wants to lead us and embrace us in Her own receptivity so that we can finally begin to believe that the Heart of God is loving us as we are and be like good soil that does nothing except receive the rain. We can then let the rain soak in so that new life can begin.  Let yourself be loved and watch what God can do!

Immaculate Heart of Mary, here is my little heart which has a hard time truly receiving God’s Love.  I keep thinking that I must get all cleaned up first or perform some good deeds so that God might take notice of me.  Take my heart into your own heart, Mary, so that I may begin to see that God’s Love is already at the door of my heart giving me existence, that because He is God, His Love is already giving me His infinite attention as if I were the only soul He created.  Help me to receive the Father’s Word of Love this Lent and listen to His silent Word of Love, discovering who I am in His Eternal Gaze of Love.
