Father John's homily - Ascension 2012

May 21, 2012

Ascension - May 20, 2012

Today we celebrate the Ascension of our Lord Jesus into heaven as He brings our human nature right into the very Life of the Holy Trinity, to the right hand of God our Father.  The Ascension of our Lord Jesus completes the goal of His Incarnation.  The Eternal Son of God became Man, taking on our human nature in order to die for our sins.  Then He rises from the dead and now He even takes that same human nature with Him as He ascends into the very Life of God Himself...

Father John's homily - 6th Sunday of Easter 2012

May 20, 2012

6th Sunday of Easter - May 13, 2012

In our first reading, Peter, the first leader of Christ’s Church chosen by Jesus Himself in Matthew chapter 16, sees how God is working in the hearts of Cornelius and his whole household.  They were non-Jews, Gentile pagans.  And Peter says, “In truth, I see that God shows no partiality.  Rather, in every nation whoever fears him and acts uprightly is acceptable to him.”  As he spoke the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Love being sent forth by the Father ...

Father John's homily - 5th Sunday of Easter 2012

May 12, 2012

5th Sunday of Easter - May 6, 2012  (First Communion Sunday)

Today [as we celebrate the Solemn Holy Communion of our 3rd graders] our Lord Jesus says in the Gospel, “I am the vine, you are the branches.  Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear much fruit, because without me you can do nothing.”  That is what God wants from each of your lives… that your lives would bear the supernatural fruit of God’s own Divine Love lived out in real virtuous deeds.

Our Lord Jesus is the main g...

Father John's homily - 4th Sunday of Easter 2012

April 29, 2012

4th Sunday of Easter - April 29, 2012

Today our Lord Jesus says to us, “I am the good shepherd.  A good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep…  I am the good shepherd, and I know mine and mine know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I will lay down my life for the sheep.”  Jesus Christ is not only the Lamb of Sacrifice who takes away our sins… He is not only the Lamb who was pierced, whose blood reconciles us to the Father… mysteriously our Lord Jesus is...

Father John's homily - 3rd Sunday of Easter 2012

April 29, 2012

3rd Sunday of Easter - April 22, 2012

Today in the Acts of the Apostle, after the coming of the Holy Spirit, Peter has the fortitude and strength to bear witness to the resurrection of Jesus as something real.  Preaching to the Jews, Peter says, “The author of life you put to death, but God raised him from the dead; of this we are witnesses.”  As the foundation of the Church instituted by Jesus Christ, the apostles were the primary witnesses to the Resurrection of Jesus.  Without the Res...

Fr. John's homily - Divine Mercy Sunday 2012

April 20, 2012

Divine Mercy Sunday - April 15, 2012

Let those who fear the LORD say, "His mercy endures forever."  Divine Mercy is the greatest attribute of God.  Mercy is what glorifies God the most, even more than His awesome Justice.  It takes more creative power to bestow Mercy and forgive than it does to punish a soul for all eternity.  In fact the Mercy of God is really the source of all things, even the act of creation itself.  For in creating the universe and each one of us, God did so only out of ...

Fr. John's homily - Easter Sunday 2012

April 14, 2012
Easter Sunday - April 8, 2012

I once saw a beautiful icon of the Resurrection of Jesus.  It depicted Jesus coming out of the tomb, conquering sin and death, but as He rose from the tomb victorious, in His right hand he held the wrist of Adam and in His left hand He had a firm hold of the wrist of Eve, lifting both of them up out of the place of death as He lifted them with Himself into the Father’s Infinite Life and Love.

This is really our joy as we celebrate Easter as well;  that we too can...

Fr. John's homily - Good Friday 2012

April 7, 2012
Good Friday – April 6, 2012

In His Passion and Death, our Lord Jesus takes upon Himself all of our sin and pain.  He enters into our losses, our hurts and times when we are weighed down by suffering.  Wherever we have been rejected or abandoned by someone who should have loved us, Jesus was there, taking the pain to Himself.  Wherever our good name was harmed or whenever we were betrayed by a friend, Jesus was already there accepting the wound with us. Our Lord Jesus even becomes sin for our...

Fr. John's homily - Holy Thursday 2012

April 7, 2012
Holy Thursday - April 05, 2012

“Before the feast of Passover, Jesus knew that his hour had come to pass from this world to the Father.  He loved his own in the world and he loved them to the end.”  This beautiful line from the Gospel brings us right into the Heart of God’s own Love story.  At the Last Supper, Jesus knows that in His Human nature, He is going to the Father, yet still linked with us, He desires at the same time to draw us too into this infinite Love existing between the Fa...
